Learn
The successful distinguish themselves by their ability to marshal their mental resources. They know how to tap into the fountain source of inspiration that lies within. Knowing how to choose their thoughts judiciously, they stay happy and full of hope. Thus, they march forth as more effective human beings.
In contrast are those who remain slaves of their emotions. They feel that the key to their joy lies in external factors. To be happy, they desperately need others to behave differently and for situations to change. Hence, they become obsessed with battling circumstances in their life.
Instead, if they had learnt the science of improving their mind, they would have found an infallible and trustworthy friend within themselves. That is why even a little time dedicated to acquiring the technology for mind management reaps powerful dividends, enriching your life forever.
Develop
Our subconscious mind stores data, retrieves it, and passes it to the conscious. As the basis of our attitudes, it has the potential of a double-edged sword. It can be our worst foe and cripple our personality with its debilitating attitudes. But it can also be our foremost benefactor and provide inner strength through never-say-die positive emotions.
The problem is that the subconscious can only create sentiments and feelings, but it cannot reason logically. And that is why it gets us into trouble with illogical fears, likes, and dislikes. If we wish to make the subconscious our friend and partner in life, we must be extremely careful of the inputs we consciously pass to it. The intellect and the conscious mind must train the subconscious and diligently seed it with positive assertions.
For instance, if we wish to programme our subconscious with positivity, we need to consciously seed it with positive ideas, while ensuring it is not contaminated it with negative thoughts.
Practice
A habit has three parts to it: 1) stimulus, 2) response, and 3) reward. The stimulus works like a trigger for the brain which then responds with the conditioned behaviour. That behaviour generates a reward which further reinforces the pattern for the future.
Habits often enter our lives without our conscious permission. But they grow so strong that they shape our destiny far more than we realise. They cause our brain to latch onto them, to the exclusion of all else including common sense. In this way, habits can be compared to a cable. Each day, we weave a thread of the cable. The singular thread seems too weak to hold us, however, when woven together, the cable is almost unbreakable.
But the good news is that habits can be changed. The brain’s quality of neuroplasticity works like a two-edged sword. On the negative side, it programmes and shackles our thinking in deleterious thought patterns.
Master
The gap between knowledge and its practice must always be bridged by ‘discipline.’ In reality, lack of self-control is akin to a mental disease that makes us feeble and irresolute. When we see this weakness within, we must make it a priority to stamp it out.
We develop self-discipline by exercising it, in much the same way as we build our muscles. Every time we follow through on a resolution, we liberate the force of willpower within. But each time we break our resolve not to indulge in sense pleasures, the muscle of self-control becomes emaciated.
In this way, small moment-to-moment victories lead to larger successes. The more we exert our willpower, the greater it grows. But if we neglect it, our self-discipline will dwindle and wither away, like unused muscles in the body. When we see people with masterly qualities and stellar character, we wonder how they reached there. Well, it was all a matter of exerting their willpower for some time, until the new habit kicked in.

About the author
Global spiritual leader. Authority on mind management. IIT and IIM alumnus. Founder of JKYog. Thought leader. Vedic scholar. Bhakti saint. Bestselling author.
Swami Mukundananda is a world-renowned teacher of Spirituality, Yoga, and Meditation. He is the founder of the yogic system called JKYog also known as Yoga for the Body, Mind, and Soul. Swamiji is a unique sanyasi (monk), who has a distinguished technical and management educational background as well. He completed engineering and management from two world-renowned institutes: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM). However, an illustrious education and a promising corporate career did not quench his thirst for knowing the Absolute Truth. The longing for God was so strong that he renounced his career and traveled throughout India as a sanyasi. During these travels, he had the opportunity to meet and interact with many great acharyas and saints, and learn about the various religious traditions and schools of philosophy in India.
Ultimately, his search took him to the lotus feet of his Spiritual Master, Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj. Under the guidance of Shree Maharajji, he studied the Vedic scriptures and practiced intense sadhana. His Guru then entrusted him with the key task of propagating the ancient knowledge of the Eternal Truth all over the world. For the last three decades, Swamiji has been traveling far and wide, awakening hundreds of thousands of seekers. He has a God-gifted ability to keep all kinds of audiences enthralled and entertained through wisdom-filled anecdotes, humorous stories, and irrefutable logic. The hallmark of his lectures is the ease with which he dispels various myths and misconceptions associated with the various paths of God-realization, and his ability to penetrate even the toughest minds and convince them with depth of understanding and scriptural veracity.
Swamiji cares deeply about imparting Hindu cultural and religious values to the younger generation, especially in the West. To aid this special effort, he has conceived a special personality development program for children and young adults called "Bal-Mukund - Playground for Vedic Wisdom" (www.bal-mukund.org). It includes character building, yoga, meditation, devotional singing, cultural exposure, and religious training. Many Bal-Mukund centers have been started for the benefit of children, both in the US and in India.
For the youth, Swamiji has started the JKYog Youth Club that offers a variety of leadership training and public speaking programs. Swamiji has also conducted programs at prestigious universities, such as Duke, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale. He has been invited to speak at various Fortune 500 companies like Google, Intel, Oracle, Verizon, Yahoo, etc.
In USA, Swamiji has inspired the formation of JKYog (www.jkyog.org) and the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas (www.radhakrishnatemple.net). In India, Swamiji is the founder of many organizations with permanent centres and ashrams, such as JKYog India (www.jkyog.in), Radha Govind Dham (Delhi, www.rgdham.org), Radha Krishna Bhakti Mandir (Cuttack, Odisha) and many more. He has established the Jagadguru Kripalu Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital in Odisha (www.natural-cure.org), which is the largest of its kind in Eastern India. He is presently engaged in the construction of Jagadguru Kripalu University, Odisha (www.jkuniversity.in) on a 100 acre campus.
Shree Swamiji has inspired people all over the world, on the path of spirituality, holistic health, yoga, meditation, service to society, and God-realization. His warmth and humility touch all those who have had the fortune to have his association. In fact, his very presence radiates grace and bliss.

- Reviewed in India on 4 December 2020Verified PurchaseI have recently been diagnosed with GAD, and have been feeling crestfallen since our university declared the exam result, ostensibly because my result wasn't I had been expecting.
I have been listening to the kirtans of Radha Kunj on YouTube since, now, more than one and half years, and also got in touch with a few devotees of Radha Kunj on social media. The first time I saw ' The Science of Mind management' on Meenu Auntie of Radha Kunj and decided to give her a read right after my exams, but, unfortunately, I kept procrastinating and couldn't read. One day, Jess Neverette, a staunch devotee and also a member of kirtan ensemble called Nikunj Ras — and regularly attends the lectures of Swamiji whenever he comes to Radha Kunj — out of brotherly affection asked: "How have you been?" I complained of deservement, dejection, fear and anxiety. Then he, because he knew what could help me, recommended me and asked me to check Swamiji's latest book' The science of Mind Management.' This time i, finally, decided to read It. And to my surprise, it turned out to be a life-changing book.
'The science of Mind Management' by Swami Mukundananda — a disciple of Kripalu Ji Maharaj, and studied Vedas under the tutelage of Maharaj Ji — is a beautiful amalgam of modern psychology, Vedic psychology, experiences of saints and sages, great personalities and personal experiences of Swamiji himself.
It is replete with anecdotes, stories of saints and examples from everyday life, which make, otherwise intricate and subtle philosophy, easy to understand for the neophyte readers like myself.
Summary of the crucial points at the end of each chapter makes it easier to memorize.
If you, like me, are tired of verborrea, circumlocutory speeches of motivational speakers — who tell you, you all have the potential to do this and that and what might seem impossible, but not how to materialise that potential, then you, I firmly believe, will find out in this book.
The book has been divided into ten parts and many subparts. For chapters/ parts 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 Swamiji brought heavily from Maharaji's Lectures — whoever has listened to those lecture can literally feel Maharaji Speaking through Swamiji's words.
Desire, Swami Ji asserts so do all Scriptures, which is insatiable, stems from the attachment, is the biggest foe and impediment in spiritual growth. This is in stark contrast to the opinion of a controversial Guru, so-called self-proclaimed Godman and Charlatan Osho, who propounded — for his vantage — if we keep doing something incessantly, our desire for that thing will be forever suppressed. Sex, he says, if keep doing it perpetually our appetite for it eventually be obliterated, and the person will attain the state of 'Samadhi.' Preposterous! One might call it, so do every scripture and great saints. Desire is unappeasable, it can only, as Swamiji writes, be fulfilled for a moment, and the happiness and satisfaction one gets is ephemeral, not everlasting what soul intrinsically craves, it then comes back with greater intensity. Swamiji provides in his book an excellent example where Subhari laments and warns ' learn from my downfall and not be fooled into thinking you will ever fulfil desires.'
It would be interesting to ask Swamiji, what if the reader is not a believer, but a secular, how, then, he can always be happy in this life, since he not interested and looking for the infinite bless/happiness for forever, but only in this life, because he is a humanist, doesn't believe in soul? Suppose he believes the happiness is in the knowledge - which is considered a good habit, but not the higher attachment - knowledge brings power, more power more knowledge and power corrupts since he has no higher purpose. How then desire for good things - knowledge to say, is regarded as good - will uplift if he doesn't have a higher purpose? Or the result will be the same as 'Faustus?'
One thing that makes me uneasy is why would Swamiji enumerate the comments Of western Scholars, philosophers and orientalists, that too before writing about Vedic psychology, about Vedas? Perhaps because of us Indians inferiority complex and self-doubting attitude — which requires validation even from a mediocre white scholar who has meagre knowledge of Vedas and Sanskrit. Would have been better if he had referred to comments of Adi Sankrachara and Kripaluji Maharaj himself. Max Muller, of course, did not give his life long study of Vedic Scriptures to ascertain the views of Schopenhauer, but because for 18th and 19th-century Western scholars, like Max Muller, 'East was a career.' Even now we have successors - who wish to play the same game of distortion - ilk of Sheldon Pollack and Wendy Donegar again thanks to Indians who provide them oxygen to carry out their nefarious agendas.
The most exhilarating thing for me in 'The Science of Mind Management' is Vedic psychology of which I have been, unfortunately, hitherto unaware. I have a few texts — which I shall not disclose here — in my mind to which I can apply it, the mere thought of its outcome excites me. Now, I have a new tool to analyse the texts I read for my literature class. This is not they teach and will never teach us, our education system is still in a colonial stupor.
'The science of mind management' is a remarkable feat of condensation, explication and synthesis of the unfathomable wisdom of Vedic Scriptures by Swamiji for which every reader of this book should be grateful.
Indeed! 'The mind alone is the cause of bondage and liberation.'
This book definitely will help in 'mind management ' and transform you into a better person, if, of course, you practice its teachings.
Truly a life-changing book!

Images in this review - Reviewed in India on 26 September 2020Verified PurchaseThe Science of Mind Managementby Swami Mukundananda is not only the latest book in my "Must Have" List ,but its the best book in terms of content writing,
problem statement explanation and step by step dealing with each characteristic of the mind.
I have read and followed many other contemporary global speakers who talk of so-called their easy techniques to master the mind. But honestly, even with all my concentration and effort, all of them have disappointed me.
At a point when I felt its impossible to manage the mind & I have to go on with whatever I have , I saw the announcement of this book 0ver internet.I pre-ordered it and got it delivered yesterday.Today I read the book in one go, not that I intended to but the flow of writing is so magnetic that once I started ,I was drawn towards next pages one after the other .To me it felt like what Harry Potter would have felt when the gates of Hogwarts welcomed him.I kid you not, but reading this book made me realize my true potential.I am feeling so light in my heart and mind.5 hours have passed since I completed the book but I have noticed that after the reading, almost all thoughts that came to my mind, for them, I could draw an imaginary graph of why I had the thought? How I can deal with it ? & subsequently how much time I should spend on it.As the saying goes, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating", without further explanation, I hope every reader shares his/her experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure that will change your life!!
Verified PurchaseThis book is a complete package to revive the mind and soul. Extremely inspirational. The book is very systematic and contains a rare and logical explanation to Vedic Wisdom.
The book emphasizes on training the mind to make sure it leads our lives to contentment and joy. It was a revelation to know about the inner world that exists within us. It highlights the various ailments of the mind and provides practical methods to get rid of them. The power of repetition and contemplation are the two essential things that we often ignore. These are explained very effectively in the book.
The importance of Roopdhyan meditation and sadhana is very well justified.
I found the systematic approach to inculcate the habit of daily sadhana very helpful.
It provides useful pointers on the cause of stress and how to eliminate it.
I feel this book is one of the best self-help books I have ever read. It has all the answers to our daily life problems. I would read it again and again and try to ponder every topic in the book.
