So often, it's the simplest acts of courage that touch the lives of others. Sudha Murty-through the exceptional work of the Infosys Foundation as well as through her own youth, family life and travels-encounters many such stories... And she tells them here in her characteristically clear-eyed, warm-hearted way. She talks candidly about the meaningful impact of her work in the devadasi community, her trials and tribulations as the only female student in her engineering college and the unexpected and inspiring consequences of her father's kindness. From the quiet joy of discovering the reach of Indian cinema and the origins of Indian vegetables to the shallowness of judging others based on appearances, these are everyday struggles and victories, large and small. Unmasking both the beauty and ugliness of human nature, each of the real-life stories in this collection is reflective of a life lived with grace.

A very impressive collection of short stories !

‘Ordinary people, Extraordinary lives’ – is what the tagline of the book says !

The book is nothing but, another beautiful bundle of 11 short stories by Sudha Murty. All stories have significant life lessons and great way to learn.

I loved how simplistic her writing, which according to me, is a mark of an able storyteller. Hence, without any doubt, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book ! Her stories get connected with you on personal level while reading and that, probably, is the reason why the author is loved by Reader’s community.

The book is very simple and light read, yet an intriguing one !

The language used in the book was super-easy so, I finished it in just 3 sittings ! Really ! Narration of the book is so smooth that making you finish it in just 2 or 3 sittings ! Also from each story, you’ll learn something special and new.

I strongly recommend to those who are beginner in English and new reader !

Give it a try and read at once. You won’t regret it !

'Three Thousand Stitches' is my first read by Sudha Murthy. Although i have heard a lot about her and had also watched some of her interviews, but i haven't got a chance to read any of her books yet. Her simple and elegant demeanour has really impressed me, i remember how awestruck i was when i got to know her academic qualification followed by the impressive works she has done. She is a very exuberant woman who i truly believe is a perfect example of the famous saying 'simple living, high thinking'.

This is a short story book consisting of eleven true stories of her personal life. She has shared some notable experiences of her life, something she thought, would help people to get a better look into her upbringing and the place she has hailed from. Starting from her education, she explained the stigma attached to the engineering stream and how challenging it was for to become the first girl in her town who has opted the science stream and dared to spend the four years of her life in a college of 499 boys. Being the only girl in the entire college, it was initially tough to survive but her resilience and the unshakeable determination has made it possible. One of the stories was solely dedicated to the spiritual capital of India, Varanasi (Kashi) and it's profound religious sentiments.

The best part about her book is that her stories are vividly expressing the honesty with which it has been written down. Every chapter is a part of her life which articulates her thoughts and perspective towards life as a whole. The one chapter where she has shared her flight incident showed the widely-spread mindset we are living in and her aversion to such mentality has perhaps compelled her to share that with all the readers. I also like the one in which her entire day at Infosys has been elaborated. The language was very easy and the stories are really interesting which could boost one's courage and willpower. Every story has some moral lessons which could be inculcated for a better life. A perfect and easy book for anyone who wants to begin reading as well as those who wants to find the real meaning of a life-fully-lived.

I enjoyed reading the book. I like authors thoughts and her writing process. Every story has a hidden moral that you realize n get a connected. But I was a little disappointed as the name of the book n story of devadasi was opener to the book. I was expecting that stories are all based on different devadasi’s there personal life and how they felt etc but what I was expected wasn’t there the subject jumped from place to place. Though I jumped but I did enjoyed the read

Murty is a bit self-conscious as a writer and just a smidge judgmental, but her passion for helping people (particularly women) on the underside of society is so undeniable that you can't help but forgive her... like an admired Auntie, or beloved friend. Her stories of her work to support massively underserved populations of economically and socially disadvantaged women are eye-opening. If you are a feminist, or just feel strongly about fairness and equity across all human beings, you will thrill a bit to her stories and her struggles.
